Welcome to 158 darling!
This site is a go to spot for American Paint Company's Chalk and Clay Paint as well as General Finishes brand Milk Paint and Gel Stain. By offering several brands I hope that everyone will find a color and finish that is perfect for their next project. Of course there are brushes and powders and creams and stains and anything else that is cool to refinish furniture with!
But since we LOVE fabric and sew as much as we paint, we are also offering fabric lines from Moda, Riley Blake, and Michael Miller! I will try and offer a large selection from each line. Check back often to see what we have added!
Some of the items I sew are available here for purchase. If you came here after visiting my facebook page and want to order any of the items you have seen on there, contact me through here and I will set up your listing!
AND this is also the site of the 158 darling blog where you can see all sorts of things that come through here. I have a pretty wide variety of things I like to do besides refinish furniture- one day you may see a tutorial on building a bookshelf and the next day I may be quilting. There will be always be new things I want to try and I hope the blog will encourge some of you to try some of them as well!
If you would like to purchase items in person click Where To Find Us to view current locations and information.
And just a little background on each company-
American Paint Company is awesome and I am so excited to stock it! American Paint Company offers an all natural, zero VOC, eco-friendly, and solvent free paint. These paints contain no acrylic, no fungicide, no co-polymers and no worries! This is the safest paint you can use. I paint right in my living room without any complaints from my family or the puppies! They have awesome colors and finishes. The creamy wax will convert you from any other wax you are currently using! My favorite part are the mica powders that you can add into a glaze, your wax, the top coat, or use at the end on their own! They add a little shimmer (or a lot) only where you want it! American Paint Company has an awesome Top Coat that will add to the hardiness of the furniture for pieces that will get a lot of use. American Paint Company paints are super thick, making for easy coverage of your project, but can also be thinned. I thin my paint all the time and it covers just as well and the quart lasts a lot longer!
General Finishes is a fun paint that leaves an awesome finish all on its own. Adding the top coat or wax only adds to the smooth texture! Not a true "milk paint" (there is no milk in it) but a modern version of old world paint with a strong mineral base, it is fabulously adaptable & UV resistant. Milk Paint can be used indoors or out & applied to furniture, crafts, and cabinets. It is super easy to use and has endless possibilities just like chalk paints. You can mix it, lighten it, distress it, glaze it, layer different colors, antique it - perfect for upcycling or repurposing furniture. The milk paint line has about 28 colors and of course colors can be mixed together to create the perfect color you are looking for.
General Finishes also offers this awesome gel stain. If you read any furniture refinishing blogs- you've heard of this. And its time to make it available locally!Super popular for repurposing & upcycling furniture and cabinets, gel stain that has the most "finishing feel" of all of the General Finishes products. Woodworkers love the lustrous finish that shows up when rubbing out the 2nd and 3rd coats. Gel Stains are formulated with a combination of pigments, oils, and urethanes to produce a durable and beautiful "hand-rubbed" finish. General Finishes Gel Stains are heavy-bodied, and so do not penetrate as deeply into the wood as liquid oilbase stains do. Because of this, they are often less affected by the condition of the wood, and can help you get a more even appearance on difficult woods such as aspen or pine.
I will be adding tutorials tips and tricks to the blog as often as I can. Until then, if you have any questions please contact me!
